Photo Challenge #52 / From a Distance

20181103ma_5948“Celebration” / Theme: From a Distance

A little about this photo…

These are the fireworks over Niagara Falls. I took this photo back in November, but I thought it was appropriate to save for the time between Christmas and New Year’s.

Please note all the people taking video or whatever with their smart phones. It’s funny, but I always think to myself: Why don’t those people just relax and enjoy the firework display instead of trying to capture it in a picture? Then I look down at my big DSLR camera and shut my mouth!

Photo Challenge #51 / It’s Pretty

20181117ma_6277“Tree Lights” / Theme: It’s Pretty

A little about this photo…

Magical Christmas trees made out of lights. The only thing that would make this photo prettier would be for there to be snow on the ground! (By the way, these are part of the Festival of Lights display in Niagara Falls.)

Photo Challenge #50 / Black and White

20180819ma_4789“Bump, Bump, Bump” / Theme: Black and White

A little about this photo…

This shot was inspired by A.A. Milne. “Here is Edward Bear coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another way… if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it!”

Photo Challenge #49 / Warmth

20181129ma_6298

“Fireside Chat” / Theme: Warmth

A little about this photo…

I saw this amazing fireplace in the lobby of a store. I just happened to have my camera with me, so I took a snap. I’ve been wanting to get a fireplace for my Warmth prompt, and it turns out that this is that photo. 🙂

Photo Challenge #48 / Light

20180709ma_3869“Grampa’s Lamp” / Theme: Light

A little about this photo…

I love this light! It hangs in my grandmother’s home. My grandfather (apparently) put it together from a kit way-back-when. I love the pattern on the ceiling. And I like how you can just make out the photo in the background. (My grandmother and her sister when they were kids in their matching dresses and their bobbed hair! Grama’s the one on the right.)

Photo Challenge #47 / Sun Flare

20180316ma_0615

“Nautical Starburst” / Theme: Sun Flare

A little about this photo…

On the shores of Lake Erie…. a little bit of sun flare brings this composition together. This is one of my favourite tricks when I have to shoot at noon or in the middle of the day. I love creating a star burst and getting that sun flare!

Photo Challenge #46 / Sunset

20181010ma_5449
“Lighthouse at Magic Hour” / Theme: Sunset

A little about this photo…

On the shores of Lake Ontario…. this lighthouse is a favourite subject of mine. But I rather like how the colours and clouds came together for this shot. I’ll be the first to point out that it’s not the most stunning sunset shot I’ve ever seen. But I do like muted colours, so I guess that’s why I picked this photo.

P.S. Some lighthouses are tall and imposing. This one’s rather cute, don’t you think?

Photo Challenge #45 / Fall Colours

20181108ma_5979“Hanging on the Line to Dry” / Theme: Fall Colours

A little about this photo…

I’ve been puzzling over how to do this prompt. I’ve taken a bunch of photos of the colourful leaves on trees, but nothing stands out as Wow! So I started collecting some individual leaves. That’s when I got inspired by a pic I saw online and thought it had just the playful vibe I wanted. And it shows Fall Colours quite nicely.

Photo Challenge #44 / Look Up

20180928ma_5331“Starry Sky” / Theme: Look Up

A little about this photo…

This is the Great Hall, located in Queens, NY. It was constructed for the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. Housed in the Hall of Science, its theme was Rendezvous in Space… hence the blue glass that makes up the walls of this giant room. And it really is a giant room (something you can’t quite grasp from the photo). During the World’s Fair, the exhibit featured Frank Capra’s final film projected onto a suspended screen. Apparently, when the film ended, two space modules performed a docking maneuver overhead!

I have two photos and I couldn’t decide which one I liked better. So I decided to put the second one below…
