Photo Challenge #3 / How Bizarre

20221110ma_1890“Carrot Hugs” / Theme: How Bizarre

A little about this photo…

These two carrots grew in my garden this past year. To me, it looks like a mother carrot hugging her little one! Or maybe it’s the opposite. The carrot baby clinging to his mama!

Photo Challenge #41 / Red or Green

20221003ma_1719“Harvest” / Theme: Red or Green

A little about this photo…

It’s that time of year, to bring in the harvest. I liked the tiny pop of color with this one red pepper among the green ones. I figured it worked well for the “Red or Green” prompt.

Photo Challenge #24 / At Day’s End

20220607ma_0770“Bee Safe!” / Theme: At Day’s End

A little about this photo…

It was a cold and rainy day when I came across this poor little bee. It was lying on the ground, so still that I thought it was dead. But then I saw that it did have some life, so I used a piece of paper to lift it from the cement floor and bring it inside the house. Into a plastic container. A quick search online gave us some idea as to how to save the bee.

A little sugar water (not honey!) and, if possible, a flower. A search outside led us to the only dandelion on the property. The bee didn’t seem too interested in the sugar water, but it immediately climbed onto the dandelion. It spent the night there. And in the morning, I put the container (including a fresh dandelion) outside in the sun.

Nobody actually saw the bee fly away, but it’s gone. I hope, to a full bee’s life!

Photo Challenge #23 / Something New

20220603ma_0741“Waiting to be Planted” / Theme: Something New

A little about this photo…

Remember a few months ago when I showed the root system of my sweet potato? Well, here are my new sweet potato slips getting ready to be planted. Just hanging out on the shelf. Waiting. (I’ve never planted sweet potatoes before. We’ll see how they do.)

Photo Challenge #21 / Garden Bliss

Garden Bliss“The Scent of Lilacs” / Theme: Garden Bliss

A little about this photo…

May really is the best month of the year, didn’t you know it? Every year, we try to make the annual visit to our local lilac garden. There are dozens of lilac trees, and a visit in May is a promise of wonderful blooms. I love to see (and take photos) of all the different lilacs. Really, there are so many photo options! I chose this one because of the bench. The perfect place to sit and drink in that bewitching scent. A visit in the morning and we pretty much had the place to ourselves! Garden bliss, indeed.

Photo Challenge #19 / Tasty

Future Currants“Future Currants” / Theme: Tasty

A little about this photo…

This Sunday is Mother’s Day in my part of the world. In honour of my mum, I’m posting one of her favourite berries… currants.

The currants aren’t there quite yet, but see all those little flower buds? They’ll turn into bright red berries within a few months. Just in time to make some jam.

Photo Challenge #33 / Wow!

20200811ma_1023“Top Tomato” / Theme: Wow!

A little about this photo…

My big beefsteak tomatoes began to ripen this week. I weighed this one and it came in at 750 g. That’s 1.65 pounds. Not bad. I’ve never weighed a tomato before, but this one seemed big enough that I just had to know. He is now the Top Tomato.

Photo Challenge #27 / Shadows

20200701ma_0759“Sunshine in the Garden” / Theme: Shadows

A little about this photo…

I saw this shadow while out working in the garden one morning and thought it would be the perfect way for me to use this photo prompt. I love how the sun shines through the little in-cut flower details along the top of the can. (For those who are curious, those are cucumbers and beets growing in the background.)

Please note: This is not the watering can I use to water. It’s more of a decorative one that hangs out in the garden. Because… well, yes, water does come out of those flower cut-outs. That’s not exactly practical even if it IS beautiful!
