Photo Challenge #40 / In Your Hand

20190702ma_1753“Wildflowers” / Theme: In Your Hand

A little about this photo…

On a walk, the niece picked some wildflowers growing by the side of the road. I liked the light and shadows dancing here, so I took a shot of what was in her hand.

Photo Challenge #36 / Macro

20190813ma_1445“Ready for My Close-up” / Theme: Macro

A little about this photo…

There’s something about flowers that just beg you to get out the camera. “Take my picture!”.  A couple things caught my eye as I was taking this photo. First, there were the almost translucent petals. I love how the light is almost shining through them. And second, I love the little detail you see when doing macro photography. We don’t often pay attention to those tiny details.

Photo Challenge #25 / Flower

IMG_9221“Dried Memories” / Theme: Flower

A little about this photo…

These are dried white roses. Of course, they look kind of yellow, don’t they? I always think there’s just something about dried flowers. Seeing them hanging there, upside down. They’re beautiful in their own way.

Maybe it’s the memories they bring back when we look at them.

Photo Challenge #7 / Pop of Colour

20190212ma_0302“Pretty in Pink” / Theme: Pop of Colour

A little about this photo…

There’s not a lot of colour this time of year. So, when the Christmas cactus decided to show off some coral pink blooms for Valentine’s Day, I decided this would fit nicely with the “Pop of Colour” prompt. (I guess it’s a Valentine cactus this year!)

Photo Challenge #28 / Something Grows

“Peek-a-Boo” / Theme: Texture

A little about this photo…

I love the texture of this weathered, old gate. And of course the lilies that are peeping through add a nice pop of colour. I could have picked a dozen prompts for this, but I finally decided to go with the “Something Grows” prompt.

Photo Challenge #14 / Still Life

“Pink Tulips at Night” / Theme: Still Life

A little about this photo…

I’ve been meaning to do a still life shot for awhile now. The chance came with these beautiful, pink tulips. I love how they are nearing the end of their blooming and are kind of flopping all over the place. Since I shot this at night, I was working with two off-camera flashes. I don’t do a lot of flash work, so this was part of the challenge for me.

Photo Challenge #5 / Reflection

20180127ma_0257

“Tea for Two” / Theme: Reflection

A little about this photo…

Place a tea cup in front of a mirror and voila! Tea for one instant becomes Tea for two! Taking photos of tea is always great because you get to drink… tea! And eat the scones. And guess what? Violets are the February flower, so I think I just might get double points for this one! 🙂

Photo Challenge #4 / Close Up

20180125ma_0224

“Frozen in Ice” / Theme: Close Up

A little about this photo…

Lily-of-the-valley… frozen in ice. After having seen some wonderful photos (I forget where now) of flowers frozen in ice, I decided to try something like it. I am quite pleased with the result. I almost feel as if the flowers have been trapped in amber.
