Photo Challenge #39 / Something Old

20200812ma_1032“Fancy a Joyride?” / Theme: Something Old

A little about this photo…

This blue beaut belonged to my mom (apparently) when she was little.  Looks like it even has room for a passenger in the back! And if you ever got bored waiting in traffic, it looks like you could practice counting on those wooden beads in the front. (I also love that it’s blue.)

I made sure to capture this near sundown to get those nice long shadows…

Photo Challenge #38 / Framed

20200901ma_1472“Little Cabin in the Woods” / Theme: Framed

A little about this photo…

Saw this adorable little log cabin on a hike. It’s certainly seen better days, but I like the fact that it looks like it’s seen a lot of use. Like one of those bird hotels. (This one looks a little “seedy”, don’t you think?)

I decided to frame it with the leaves from a nearby tree, which gives it a nice effect.

Photo Challenge #37 / This is It

20200911ma_1546“It Came By Post” / Theme: This is It

A little about this photo…

Look what came in the mail! If you can’t see it, that’s my name in the byline. This is my first children’s story to be published. And to make it even more meaningful, it’s the story of my grandmother during WWII. That’s her photograph and her Red Cross brooch. (In the artwork, she’s the girl on the right. I think it’s pretty cool that they came pretty close to her correct hair colour!)

Note: In the story, she’s about 16 or 17 years old. However, in the photo, she was probably already in her twenties…

Photo Challenge #36 / Watch Me

20200815ma_1099“King of the Castle” / Theme: Watch Me

A little about this photo…

Came across this statue of King George VI… and these birds were sitting on his head. As you can see, I managed to get one in flight. (The other bird still on the head left shortly afterwards.) And just look at King George’s face. He doesn’t seem to mind a bit.

Photo Challenge #33 / Wow!

20200811ma_1023“Top Tomato” / Theme: Wow!

A little about this photo…

My big beefsteak tomatoes began to ripen this week. I weighed this one and it came in at 750 g. That’s 1.65 pounds. Not bad. I’ve never weighed a tomato before, but this one seemed big enough that I just had to know. He is now the Top Tomato.

Photo Challenge #32 / Transportation

20200805ma_1000“Sail Boats in Dock” / Theme: Transportation

A little about this photo…

For this prompt, I’m going with all the sailboats just waiting to go out to sea (not really the sea… but you can’t really say ‘out to lake’, can you?) While it’s not really the way I typically use to get around, it is definitely a mode of transportation! I love all the ways in the foreground.

Photo Challenge #31 / Monochrome

20200707ma_0836-bw“Stack of Bottles” / Theme: Monochrome

A little about this photo…

I tried this photo both in colour and in black and white… I’m liking the black and white (which means I get to use the Monochrome prompt!)

For some reason, I find there’s something about empty glass bottles that draws my photographer-eye. (You can see that these are not the first bottles I’ve posted. And here’s another post.) Maybe it’s because we don’t use glass bottles nearly as much as we’ve done in the historical past. Hmmm.

Photo Challenge #30 / Far From It

20200723ma_0937“Perfectly Playful Carrots” / Theme: Far From It

A little about this photo…

Here is a small sampling of some of the carrots I harvested this week. As you can see, there are some beautiful carrots. And there are also some carrots who decided to have a little fun. Like the carrot with the big nose? Or the little tooth-carrot? Don’t forget the carrots that think they’re some sort of underwater sea-creatures. And then there is the lone carrot that is pale yellow! Where did that guy come from?! While they’re not quite perfectin fact, they’re far from perfection!they taste quite good.
