“Dorothy” / Theme: Texture
A little about this photo…
This is my grandmother’s doll, Dorothy. She got her when she was 6 years old, after having her appendix out. Dorothy was a gift from the ladies in her father’s office, which I think was pretty generous considering that this would have been during the Great Depression.
I’ve always been fascinated by the lines on Dorothy’s face. Of course, these weren’t there back in the 1930s. It’s almost like Dorothy’s aged, along with my grandma. Those lines on her face are as beautiful as the wrinkles on my own grandma’s face. (Yes, I do think wrinkles can be beautiful!)

For some reason I think of skating. And how wonderful that your grandmother has managed to keep the doll in such good condition (the crazed complexion excepted!)

Yes, it has always amazed me that the doll is in such good condition. I do remember that we were never allowed to play with her.

Great photo and I like how you connect the lines on the doll to the wrinkles on your grandmother’s face to show that the toy too has aged.
However, on another note, seeing old dolls (in pics or otherwise) tend to creep me out a little. I watched too many horror movies as a kid about haunted dolls.

I know what you mean about the “creepy” factor. The same goes for clowns. Which is really weird since both dolls and clowns are such happy things.

Yea, definitely clowns and that is weird.
